Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K reviewed progress of KVK Ganderbal and PEQ facility at Shuhama Campus.
Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K made a comp rehensive visit to KVK Ganderbal and Plant Quarantine Centre on 28th July 2023. He was accompanied by Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension, Prof. Tariq Masoodi, Director Research, Prof. Haroon Naik, Director Planning, & Monitoring Associate Dean Agri-engineering, Dean FVSc & AH, H.O.D. (Fruit Sciences) and other Officers of the University. The purpose of the visit was to review the progress of Plant Quarantine Facility and various units at KVK Ganderbal.
At the outset, team KVK heartily welcomed Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Director Research and congratulated them for undertaking the pious journey of Hajj. Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai was satisfied with the massive land development of the KVK farm, which has changed landscape of this centre and appreciated the efforts of the Kendra in establishing various units in short span of time for technology demonstration, research & development. Director Extension Prof. Makhdoomi informed the dignitaries about various outreach programmes undertaken for farmer’s welfare. Director Research & Director Planning & Monitoring gave on spot instructions to H.O.D. (Fruit Science) and Head KVK Ganderbal, for better coordination of activities in their respective domains so that modern quarantine facility for quality planting material and protected cultivation is established at this campus in a time bound manner. On the occasion, it was emphasised by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor that the University will provide full cooperation for the development of infrastructure on modern lines and a sophisticated technology cum demonstration units shall be established and completed during the current year, which will serve as a model for farmers of the District Ganderbal.
Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal described the various activities being carried out by his team particularly for popularization of high density plantation system, drone technology, large scale fodder development and its value addition, processing of fruits/vegetables with focus on nutrition of women & children in the District. Dr. Abidi reiterated that the mission of this KVK is to whole heartedly improve the socio-economic conditions of the farming community.
